An Open Letter to Our Supporters
Dear Friend:
ADARA needs your help. For the past several conferences we have offered two awards for student work in social services.
Martin Seligman Student Research in Psychology and Deafness Award is given to a student who has conducted exemplary research in the field of psychology and deafness and has committed to both presenting at the ADARA conference and publishing his/her research in the JADARA on the research. The student will be recognized during the conference and will receive the money award upon completion of the above requirements.
Boyce R. Williams Student Writing Award is given to recognize and reward exemplary student writing in the area of human services to people with hearing loss.
At the last conference neither of these awards was presented because we had no nominations. I don’t believe for a minute that there were no exemplary articles, papers, or research done. It’s just that the word didn’t get to people who needed to know. That’s where you come in.
Would you help us get the word out to interested faculty and students that these opportunities exist?
In early 2011 we will distribute nomination forms for work done between September, 2009 and March 2011. Any student work done in that period is eligible for consideration. If you know of good candidates for these awards, please tell them to get in touch with me.
One more thing… I would like to have a couple of volunteers to help me judge the submissions. I would prefer full-time faculty members in the appropriate fields.
Sincerely,
Steve Hamerdinger,
Chair, Awards Committee
